Shalom!

That eating holiday is on its way, Thanksgiving! I think we have all forgotten the meaning of this holiday and instead concentrate on the food eating and preparations. The idea of sharing a meal with friends and family is part of what I think of as my “Jewish Heritage.” For me, every holiday means food preparation and eating. But it seems that each year the preparations get longer and the eating happens quicker! But this year, we really need to think about what we have to be thankful for. In the middle of all the things happening in Israel, it is hard for us to be thankful for what we have when those in Israel are still suffering from the effects of the attack on their country. But here are some of the things that I am thankful for:

  • My wonderful family, kids, grandkids, and my many cousins
  • All my friends here at Kol Ami
  • That we live in a country where we can be free to worship as we want, so far
  • Our health (Dave’s and mine) is still pretty good, and we are able to get around and participate in activities
  • The kindness of others, especially those at Kol Ami
  • That there is a Jewish state called Israel
  • The ability to still travel and see many different places in the world

Sisterhood just had a wonderful luncheon honoring our new members and those who have reenrolled in Sisterhood. I would like to thank the many people who helped with that event. Nothing happens on its own or with one person; it does take a village to put on an event like that. Sisterhood has other activities coming up in the next month; December 10th is the Congregational Chanukah party, and Sisterhood will be sponsoring a scavenger hunt during the afternoon. So please plan on attending! In January, we are planning a Spa Day at Kol Ami for all our Sisters to enjoy!

I would like to congratulate Carolyn Fink on being honored as Kol Ami’s representative for Women of Distinction for 2023! Please plan on attending this event at Kol Ami this year on November 30th.

Shalom,
Sharon Cross
