Feb16

Sharon Cross, Sisterhood President

February has always been a strange month for me. It seems to come and go so fast. It is here before you know it, and before you turn around, it’s gone! As a kid, I hated February, because in Rochester, NY, winter nights started around 4 o’clock, and you knew you were in the “dead” of winter. But here in Tampa, I have come to like February, because of the promise that spring IS already here. For Kol Ami, February brings many events, and then in March, even more.

Sisterhood will be holding our Annual Fundraising Dinner right before the Annual Congregational Meeting! This year, we are going to Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza & Wings, which is almost across the street from Kol Ami. Anthony’s has agreed to allow dinner or lunch (carry- out or eat- in) for anyone who says they are with Kol Ami, starting at 11AM (!), to be part of our fundraising event. So before you come to Kol Ami for the Annual Meeting, join us at Anthony’s for dinner!

March starts with Purim, and Sisterhood has two events planned. First is our hamantaschen baking with the Kol Yeladim kids on March 5th. Both the kids and the adults enjoy preparing hamantaschen to be eaten during our Purim Carnival! If you want hamantaschen for your family to eat at home, we have that covered also! Order your own hamantaschen made by Max at Nosh Caterers by February 28th. All hamantaschen can be picked up at Kol Ami the morning of March 5th. Reservations can be made online on our website.

Calling all Mah Jongg players! Sisterhood is sponsoring a Mah Jongg Tournament on March 12th at Kol Ami. Registrations must be made by March 1st. This can be done online at https://www.kolami.org/event/sisterhood-mah-jongg-tournament.html . For those who like to play but are not interested in competing in tournaments, we will also be offering “gentle” tables for just playing and not competing.

Then at the end of March is the Rabbi Joel Wasser (z”l) Memorial Scholar in Residence and Sisterhood and Brotherhood Weekend. This year on Friday, March 24th – Sunday, March 26th we will have the honor of hearing Rabbi Elyse Goldstein. She will be speaking on Friday night, Shabbat morning, and Sunday morning. On Shabbat morning, Sisterhood and Brotherhood members will be conducting services and participating in all aspects of the service.

I look forward to seeing you at all these great events! It’s time to be back in Kol Ami!
