WELCOME FROM SISTERHOOD PRESIDENT, BARBARA FREEDLAND

As Sisterhood President, I want to welcome all Sisterhood members and potential members to join us for the many programs and fundraisers that Sisterhood has to offer.  The several programs include participation in Scholar in Residence/Sisterhood Shabbat, Open House/Kick-off Event, Book Club Meetings, Torah Fund Brunch & Board Installation, Re-enrollment/Paid-up membership Event and many other fun programs.

Sisterhood funds and prepares Kiddush luncheons for our congregants twice a month on an on-going basis.  We have a wonderful group of volunteers who enjoy working together preparing meals for our congregants, which is greatly appreciated.  This gives our congregants the opportunity to enjoy a meal after Shabbat Services to both nourish their bodies and souls, along with social interaction.   A win-win situation.

We also hold fundraisers throughout the year to support Sisterhood and Kol Ami programs.  These fundraisers include our High Holiday Mazelgrams which gives our congregants the opportunity to send holiday greetings to members of Kol Ami,  Honey from the Heart where congregants can send a decorative jar of honey for Rosh Hashanah  to anyone around the country, Mah Jongg tournaments which bring in people from around the community, and our catering services for Bar/ Bat Mitzvahs and other simchas. 

Kol Ami Sisterhood is part of Women’s League for Conservative Judaism (WLCJ). To support Women’s League, we hold an annual Torah Fund/Board Installation at the beginning of June.  The Torah Fund campaign of WLCJ raises funds to help support programs and scholarships for five seminaries around the world including the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York and Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles.  Those who contribute to Torah Fund receive a beautiful pin and are honored at the Torah Fund/Installation event.  In 2024, Sisterhood raised $5,300 towards this fund!

We welcome all women, regardless of Kol Ami membership, to join our Sisterhood. There is something for everyone!
