Jennifer Halls, Education Director

Shalom Kol Ami!

The year is winding down, but the fun and learning are still going strong!  We had some Pesach fun and learning and a wonderful Yom Ha’Atzmaut program for our students last month.  I always start to get excited at the end of April knowing that we will be getting ready for our 5th Grade Parsha Party in May!  Another group of children will get to learn their Parsha that they will chant for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah!  It is such an exciting time for our students and families.

We had a fun Yom Ha’Atzmaut program last month to celebrate Israeli Independence Day!  Our 3rd-7th graders wrote letters to a few Lone Soldiers in the IDF.  They really put in some heartfelt messages to these brave young men and women.  We also practiced Hatikvah, Israel’s national anthem, but the highlight for the students was the opportunity to make homemade hummus!  We had an Israeli feast to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the State of Israel! Students made their own hummus, and enjoyed falafel and Israeli salad.  It was a delicious celebration!

May is a busy month for our Kol Yeladim students!  We will be winding down the year but still learning about Lag B’Omer and Shavuot!  We will also have our end-of-the-year assembly and picnic!  Our picnic, beginning at 11am, and last day of this school year is on May 21st.  A huge shout out to Samantha Ruffkess and Mitch Weiss for planning this event!  Make sure to bring your water clothes and appetites!  Before this event, our 3rd Annual Parsha Party will take place in the Board Room with Rabbi Blatt and me!  We can’t wait to start our 5th graders on their Bar/Bat Mitzvah journey!

Report cards will be mailed home by June 15th.  Our Early Bird Registration is open for next year until June 2nd.  Sign up this month and receive a 10% discount on next year’s tuition.  Click the link to begin registration. https://www.kolami.org/kol-yeladim-registration-2023.html

It has been a great year!  A big thank you to our School Board and our School Board Chair, Shaina Shuford!  I could not make this year happen without you all!  Thank you to Ari Horowitz for taking on the responsibility of Schmear & Schmooze that we started this year!  This year, we had several Madrichim who came every Sunday to help our teachers.  Shabbat School has been such a success with the help of Lea Visher and Addy Visher who have been my tutors this year!  Good luck at UF next year, Lea!  Go, Gators! Thank you, Hayden Cross, Davina Horowitz, Lily Halls, and Maria Arcis. And finally, my teachers!!!  Thank you, Jen Zimmer, Beth Grabash, Alissa Chernin, Lauren Dunayer, MK Williams, and Lynn Chernin (our helpful sub)!

Please check out the website and calendar for all the fun programming we have for all ages!

See you around the Shul,

Jennifer Halls
