Kevin Cross, President

We had a busy December here at Kol Ami! Now, we turn the page as a new year brings not only new beginnings, but also the time we may need to reflect and prepare for the days given to us. When I was young, a year seemed like a really long time. Now, as I advance through life, a year seems to blast by in what seems like the blink of an eye. When I was seven, a year was one seventh of my life. Now, a year is a much smaller percentage of my life. Or maybe the perceived brevity of a year is caused by the speed that we travel through this life, filled with time at work, with family, and with community here at Kol Ami. Whatever the reason, each year passes as we know it. And each year has 365 days (366 in this leap year), and we have a lot to do.

It was great to see everyone at our first Holy Happy Hour of the year on Friday, January 5th! If you have yet to attend one of these events, I encourage you to swing by for the next one.  It’s a great way to chat with fellow congregants, meet with your chavurah, and speak to your Kol Ami Board of Trustees and clergy.

Our Fundraising Committee has been meeting weekly, preparing for our annual fundraising gala on Saturday, January 20 at 7:30pm at the synagogue. This year, the committee has come up with an innovative theme…Prom Night! The event will be full of fun and entertainment, food, music, and auctions. You can also vote to crown our Kol Ami Prom King and Queen! Voting, tickets, and sponsorships can be obtained on our website at KolAmi.org. As this is our annual fundraiser, if you are able, please sponsor the event, even if you are unable to attend.

Have a great start to the new year.

L’Shalom,

Kevin Cross
