Jon Zimmer, Brotherhood President

Shalom everyone!  It’s been an eventful summer for the award -winning Brotherhood of Kol Ami!  I attended the FJMC (Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs) Convention in June in Philadelphia with hundreds of other members and clubs from all throughout North America.  The Brotherhood of Kol Ami was privileged to win its third consecutive “Quality Club Award”.  We also won an individual “Torch Award” (Silver) for our popular Annual Firearm Safety Day!  We are very proud and grateful that Brotherhood was recognized.

With the school year just starting, we are back in the swing of things.  If you didn’t stop by Brotherhood’s table this past Sunday at the Kick-Off Event, here are just a few things we have coming up.

This Sunday, August 27th, before 85 of us head out to watch the Rays play some last-place team from New York, please join Ari Horowitz, Chairman of the Chai Guys and Gals, to help us beautify the shul by doing yard work, pulling weeds, cutting branches and such.  Please bring comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty!  Refreshments will be served.  We also have High Holiday set-up (chairs and books) on Sunday morning, September 10th, and Sukkah set-up on Wednesday, September 27th at
5:30 PM.  Please stop by and lend a helping hand!

Thursday, September 21st is our 6th Annual Craft Beer Tasting Night at Carrollwood’s newest craft brewery, Wulfaven Brewing, on Gunn Highway.  It is great to support a local small business.  The owner will give us a tour of the facility and explain some of the brewing process.   The cost is $20 for members, $25 for non-members; it is open to all adults 21 years old and older.  We’ll be getting pizza in addition to our flight of beers and the tour!

On Monday, October 2nd, we will be having our Steaks in the Sukkah Event with steak (or chicken), beverages, and a little learning.  A few weeks later, our FJMC Silver Torch Award- winning Firearm Safety Day, will take place on Sunday, October 15th at Shooting Sports, near the shul on 7811 N. Dale Mabry Highway.

Please RSVP to me at brotherhood.kolami@gmail.com for any of these events, or to offer any suggestions, ideas or feedback.  Brotherhood is you, and we would love to hear from anyone from Kol Ami on how to improve our organization.

L’Shanah Tovah to all, and looking forward to seeing you at shul.

Jon Zimmer
Brotherhood President
